Motorcycle plates

A 2025 amendment rewrote this whole area and softened it considerably: what were imprisonment-or-large-fine provisions are now fine-only, and every one of them states a maximum rather than an amount. One of them did not commence with the rest.

What the amended Act states

Not one of these is a fixed fine. Each says 'not more than', which leaves the amount to whoever imposes it.

Why 'up to'

A ceiling is not an amount

This site will not print a ceiling as though it were the fine. The instrument states an upper bound and no floor, so the figure you are charged could lawfully be anything at or below it — and no instrument this site could read says how that choice is made.

A staged commencement

One of these penalties started later than the others

The plate-format penalty was staged rather than commencing with the rest of the amendment — and the words used name a deadline, not a day.

The penal provision for driving without the larger, readable, colour-coded plate is gated on its own date. Every other provision on this page — registration, loss reporting, tampering, stolen-plate use — is not gated by it and applies from the amendment’s own effectivity.

UNRESOLVED

The instrument names a deadline, not a commencing day

The 2025 amendment stages the penalty for driving without the new, larger and colour-coded motorcycle plate rather than commencing it with the rest of the Act. The words it uses name a deadline — the penal provisions take effect “after” a stated date — not a commencing day. Reading that as the following day is the natural construction and is what this site's data does, but the instrument itself does not say so, and the difference is a real one for anyone apprehended near that boundary.

No peso figure exists

Using a motorcycle in a crime prices entirely in imprisonment

That offence is untouched by the 2025 amendment and its penalty is wholly custodial — Revised Penal Code imprisonment bands, with no fine attached. This site’s engine refuses by name rather than producing a peso figure for it, and no table here shows one.
